Meditation and a strong connection to nature guide my intuitive approach to painting.
Often beginning with no end in mind, I layer many passes of paint and mixed media onto the support. The painting becomes a conversation where I endeavour to listen and respond in a sensitive way to what is presenting in the moment. Movements are sometimes contemplative and slow and at other times fast and furious. I laughingly say painting is a martial art. What emerges is an expression of emotion, ideas, philosophical pondering, present earthly matters and hopefully a hint of the divine.
Before painting I set an intention to transform preconceived limitations and constructs. I'm often writing and drawing into the paint, with graphite and pastel, life affirming words with high vibrations like 'peace', 'joy', 'love'. Even when the words get buried in more layers of paint the intention and positive energy charge the life of the painting.
Life on earth is constantly changing and even evolving. Original art has the ability to transform vibrations and thoughts. Great things may happen; hearts may mend, joy may replace sorrow, pain may lessen, previous limitations may be overcome.
The purpose of art is to question, expand and even beautify prior conceptions and limitations. An artwork is complete when a viewer brings their humanity, knowledge and experiences to it and through personal awareness and observation, a shift may occur.
All life is creativity. Inspiration for painting is infinite.
